Import products from Excel or CSV

How to load your catalogue from a CSV or Excel file, update existing products and align stock, with a preview before saving.

Where to find it
Products → More → Import from CSV or Excel

Open in Nanus

What it is for

It brings the catalogue of your old software or of a spreadsheet into Nanus, or updates the products you already have in bulk. You see a row-by-row preview first: nothing is saved until you confirm.

Prepare the file

  • CSV or Excel .xlsx format, with the column names in the first row; the old .xls cannot be read.
  • The Code and Description columns are required.
  • Optional: Unit, Price, VAT (or the nature code, e.g. N4), Category, Barcode, Cost, Minimum stock, Weight, Stock and Type. Common Italian and English column names are recognised too, such as Aliquota, Famiglia, EAN or Category.
  • Amounts may be written the Italian way (1.234,56 €) and VAT as 22%. Without a VAT column 22% is used.

How to do it

  1. In Products open More → Import from CSV or Excel.
  2. In Choose the file select the file.
  3. In Items whose code already exists choose Leave them as they are or Update the fields found in the file.
  4. Tick Track stock for new items if they are goods whose stock you keep.
  5. Check the preview: the summary, the recognised and ignored columns, and for each row the result New, To update, Already present, Repeated or To fix with the reason.
  6. Tap Import followed by the number of items. When done, Back to the list.

Stock and updates

  • With a Stock column the product becomes stock-tracked and its quantity is aligned to the file with a stock count movement dated today.
  • With Update the fields found in the file only the fields in the file change; the others stay.
  • Repeated: the same code appears more than once in the file; the first row counts.
  • To fix: the row fails the product checks (for example a 0% rate without a nature code) and is skipped.

Stock alignment replaces the quantity in stock with the one in the file: use it for opening stock or after a stock count, not to add goods you received.

Frequently asked questions

The file is missing columns: why?

Nanus did not find a Code and a Description column in the first row: check that the first row holds the column names.

Can I import variants, lots or serial numbers?

No: only products are imported. Variants, lots and serial numbers are managed from the product record and from movements.
