Variants: sizes, colours and dimensions
How to create a product’s variants, each with its own code, stock and optionally price and barcode, and how to use them in documents.
- Where to find it
- Products → product record → Variants
What it is for
A T-shirt in three sizes and two colours is one product with six variants. Each variant has its own code, which goes on documents, its own stock and, if needed, a price and barcode different from the product’s.
How to do it
- Open a Goods product with its Code already entered and open the Variants section.
- In First group (e.g. sizes) type the values separated by commas, for example
S, M, L. - If needed, in Second group (e.g. colours) type for example
Red, Blue. - Tap Create combinations: each combination becomes a variant with a code like
TSHIRT-M-REDand the description “M / Red”. - Adjust Code, Variant, Price and Barcode if needed; untick Active for variants you no longer sell, or Remove to delete them.
- Tap Save.
You can tap Create combinations again after adding a value: only the missing combinations are added, existing ones stay as they are.
Variants in documents and stock
- In documents, after the product you choose the variant; the variant code goes on the line.
- Without its own price a variant uses the product’s price.
- Stock is kept per variant: in movements and transfers the variant is required.
- The warehouse terminal recognises the variant’s barcode; if you scan the product code it asks Which variant?.
- Labels are printed one per active variant, and the stock count has one row per variant.
- Price change on the base price also changes variant prices.
What Nanus checks
- Each variant code must be unique across all products and variants.
- Variant barcodes must have the right check digit.
- In movements: “Choose the variant of …” if it is missing, “Variant … is not one of …” if it is wrong.
