What it is for

Every Italian e-invoice declares a document type, a code from TD01 to TD29 defined by the FatturaPA specifications. The type tells the Revenue Agency what kind of transaction it is, and the SDI (Sistema di Interscambio, the Italian e-invoicing exchange system) uses it in its checks: with the wrong type the invoice can be rejected. In Nanus the type almost always follows from the feature you use, so you rarely pick it by hand.

Sales invoices

  • TD01 Invoice: the immediate invoice, issued when the sale takes place. It is the default in New invoice.
  • TD02 Advance invoice: for an advance collected before the goods are delivered or the service is completed.
  • TD03 Advance on fee note: an advance requested by a professional.
  • TD06 Fee note: a professional’s invoice, usually with withholding tax and a pension fund contribution.
  • TD24 Deferred invoice: groups deliveries already documented by delivery notes (DDT); Nanus creates it from the delivery notes to invoice.
  • TD25 Deferred invoice (triangular): Nanus does not prepare it; it only shows it when it comes from another program through an import.

TD01, TD02, TD03 and TD06 are chosen in the Document type field of a new invoice and of recurring invoices.

Adjustments

  • TD04 Credit note: reduces or cancels an invoice already issued (return, discount, price error). You create it from the invoice with More → Credit note.
  • TD05 Debit note: adds an amount to an invoice (price difference, late payment interest, costs). You create it with More → Debit note.

Self-invoices and integrations

These types are issued by the buyer, not the seller, and are prepared in Purchases → More → New self-invoice, often starting from a recorded purchase invoice:

  • TD16 domestic reverse charge integration; TD17 services from abroad; TD18 intra-EU goods; TD19 goods already in Italy from a foreign supplier (art. 17 c. 2);
  • TD20 self-invoice for regularisation; TD21 self-invoice for plafond overrun; TD22 and TD23 goods extracted from a VAT warehouse;
  • TD26 depreciable goods and internal transfers; TD27 self-consumption or free supplies; TD28 purchases from San Marino with VAT; TD29 notice of missing or irregular invoicing;
  • TD01 issued on the supplier’s behalf, for example for a farm producer.

What Nanus checks

  • for TD16-TD20 and TD29 supplier and customer must be different parties; for TD21 they must be the same;
  • for TD17, TD18, TD19 and TD28 the supplier must be foreign, for TD29 Italian;
  • for TD16-TD20, TD22, TD23, TD28 and TD29 the customer’s VAT number is required;
  • TD21 does not allow lines with a 0% VAT rate.

Nanus does not issue simplified invoices (TD07, TD08, TD09): for sales to consumers use the ordinary invoice or a counter sale.

Frequently asked questions

Which type do I use for an advance?

TD02 if you are a business, TD03 if you are a professional; the balance then goes on a TD01 invoice or a TD06 fee note.

Where is the credit note among the types?

You do not pick it in Document type: you create it from the invoice to adjust with More → Credit note.
