Open in Nanus

What it is for

The periodic settlement compares VAT on sales (output) with VAT on purchases (input) and tells you how much to pay with the F24 form (the Italian tax payment form) and by when. Nanus calculates it for each period of the year from the recorded documents; payment and filings with the Agenzia delle Entrate (the Italian Revenue Agency) are done by you or your accountant.

How to use it

  1. Open Accounting → Settlements and choose the Year.
  2. The first time, open the year’s VAT settings section: choose Settlement Monthly or Quarterly, enter the Credit from previous year and, at year end, the December advance paid. Tap Save.
  3. Read the table: for each period Output VAT, Input VAT, Carry-overs and adjustments, Balance and To pay.
  4. Tap PDF to print the year’s report.

How Nanus calculates

  • Sales VAT at the invoice date; for deferred invoices, in the month of the delivery notes. It includes VAT on daily takings, shown as “of which daily takings”.
  • Purchase VAT at the recording date, for the deductible part only.
  • With deferred VAT (cash accounting) the tax enters when you collect or pay, in proportion to the amount, and in any case after one year.
  • Split payment and self-invoices for exceeding the export ceiling are not counted as output VAT.
  • A period’s credit is carried to the next; a debit under €25.82 is not paid and is added to the next period.
  • With quarterly settlement, 1% interest is added when the balance is due.
  • The December advance is deducted from the last settlement of the year.

Tax codes and deadlines

The To pay column shows the amount with “F24 code by …”. Monthly: codes 6001–6012, by the 16th of the following month (July by 20 August). Quarterly: 6031, 6032 and 6033, by 16 May, 20 August and 16 November; the fourth quarter is paid with the annual balance, code 6099, by 16 March.

Deadlines falling on a Saturday or Sunday move to Monday; other public holidays are not considered and must be checked.

Special cases

  • Cash accounting for VAT is turned on in Settings → Company details, option Cash accounting for VAT (art. 32-bis DL 83/2012).
  • Future periods are shown greyed out.
  • The same page has the section for stamp duty on e-invoices, with the quarterly payments.
