Install the Nanus desktop app
Download and install Nanus on Windows, macOS or Linux: which file to choose, how to verify it and what happens the first time you start it.
- Where to find it
- nanus.it website → Download
Available in the desktop app.
What it is for
The desktop app is the same Nanus, installed on your computer: data is kept in a folder on the computer and you can work offline (sending invoices to the SDI or contacting support still needs the internet). It asks for no account: it opens directly. With the Free plan you can issue up to 100 documents a year.
Which file to choose
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit: the
.exeinstaller is the recommended choice and installs Nanus for your user; the.msipackage is meant for company networks. - macOS 11 or later: one file for Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) and one for Macs with an Intel processor.
- Linux: AppImage,
.debpackage (Debian, Ubuntu) or.rpmpackage (Fedora, openSUSE).
If the Download page says Coming soon for your system, the package has not been published yet: meanwhile you can use Nanus in your browser.
How to do it
- Open the Download page of nanus.it and download the file for your system.
- If you like, verify the file: next to each file there is its SHA-256 fingerprint; compute it on your computer (in PowerShell with
Get-FileHash, in the Terminal withshasum -a 256) and compare it with the one on the page. - Open the downloaded file and follow your system’s installation.
- Start Nanus: after the start-up screen the initial setup opens, where you enter your company details or bring your data from another installation with a backup.
After installing
- Every day Nanus saves a copy of your data by itself; in Settings → Import and backup → Backup and restore you see which folder and how many copies it keeps.
- Updates arrive by themselves and install when you close the app, or straight away with Update now.
- To remove the Free limit, paste the licence key generated in the cloud into Settings → Subscription.
- You can connect the app to your cloud account or share the data with the other office computers over the local network, from Settings → Users and sign-in.
- Nanus opens only once: if you start it again, the window already open comes to the front. Closing the window shows Close Nanus?, because unsaved changes would be lost.
Common problems
- Nanus fails to start: close and reopen the app. If the problem persists, send support the log file shown on the same page.
- With the
.msi,.debor.rpmpackage, updates ask for the administrator password: this is normal.
Before reinstalling or changing computer, download a backup from Backup and restore: the data lives in the app’s folder on that computer.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to use the desktop app?
No, it opens directly. An account is only needed to connect it to the cloud or for sign-ins over the local network.
How do I move my data from one computer to another?
On the old computer download the backup; on the new one, in the initial setup, choose to bring your data with a backup and select the file.
