Bank list: ABI, CAB and BIC
How Nanus recognises the bank from an IBAN and how to add branches, BIC codes and foreign banks to the list, by hand or from a CSV file.
- Where to find it
- Customers & suppliers → More → Banks (ABI and BIC)
What it is for
The ABI (5 digits) identifies an Italian bank, the CAB (5 digits) its branch, the BIC (or SWIFT) the bank in international payments. They are needed for RiBa (Italian bank receipts, which require the ABI and CAB of the customer’s bank), for SDD direct debits and for customers paying from abroad. The banks in the Bank of Italy register are already included and the list updates itself every month.
Where you see it at work
Under an Italian IBAN, in the Bank section of a customer or supplier and in your company’s bank details, Nanus shows the CIN, ABI and CAB read from the IBAN and the bank name with its BIC. If the bank is not in the list you see “bank not in the list” with Add to the list, which opens a new entry already filled with ABI and CAB.
Add a bank
- Open Customers & suppliers → More → Banks (ABI and BIC).
- Tap New bank, or search the name in the search box and, under From the Bank of Italy register, tap the bank to start from its data.
- Fill in Bank name, ABI, CAB (branch), BIC, Branch and Town. With an empty CAB the entry applies to every branch of the bank.
- Tap Save. Your entries take precedence over the register.
Import from CSV
- Prepare a file with the columns name;ABI;CAB;BIC, with or without a header.
- Tap More → Import from CSV and choose the file.
- Read the preview with rows read, new banks and banks to update, then tap Import.
Entries with the same ABI and CAB are updated, not duplicated. Rows without a name or without a 5-digit ABI are ignored and reported.
What Nanus checks
- 5-digit ABI and CAB.
- BIC of 8 or 11 characters: bank, country, location and optional branch.
- Only one entry for the same ABI and CAB pair.
- In contacts: RiBa needs both ABI and CAB, and they must match the IBAN.
